Favorite Chaffee County Heritage Site: My favorite site is the Collegiate Peaks Scenic & Historic Byway. The views and the other pleasures of traveling along it need to be both enjoyed and understood.

What you love about Chaffee County: The natural forces and processes that have created the Chaffee County landscape with its plant and animal populations have made it outstanding even within the Rocky Mountain region. Appreciation of its unique value only grows with time spent here. Up to the present time, preserving that special environment has been compatible with human habitation. We need to keep it that way for future generations. We need to encourage a mentality of stewardship, not exploitation.

Staff

Dominique Naccarato

Executive Director

How long you’ve been with the Chaffee Heritage Board:  I’ve been the Administrator for the Chaffee Heritage Board since becoming Executive Director for GARNA in 2018.

Favorite Chaffee County Heritage Site: Garfield Miner’s Cabin, because it was one of the first historic nominations that I was part of, and it sparked an amazing history lesson from DJ Dejong about that piece of property. I also love everything about the Monarch area and Monarch Pass.

What you love about Chaffee County: It’s home. I love the ranching heritage because it’s part of my husband’s family which goes back five generations. I also love the indigenous history of the area but also the current participation from Native Americans who called this valley their ancestral homelands.
